Rick Dobney Woodturning
17th March 2020 - Corona Virus Update
In line with advice issued by the authorities, tuition and demonstrations will be suspended until such a time as we're given the 'all clear'. I will contact clubs and individuals directly to confirm arrangements and potentially reschedule for dates later in the year.
In the meantime, I hope you and your families, friends and loved ones stay safe and well. Keep making the shavings
Very Best Wishes
I first took to woodturning in 2008 and have since been developing my skills, ideas and portfolio. I'm an active member of Sheffield Woodturning Club where I've been fortunate to see demonstrations from many of the best turners on the circuit.
Turning is a therapeutic change from my desk based day job where I work in IT. In the fullness of time, I hope woodturning will overtake IT as my main occupation but in the meantime I aim to further develop my skills and share what I've learned with other enthusiasts and beginners alike.
So what style of turning do I do....? I'll have a go at anything, I sincerely think this is the only way to develop a broad skill base. I do take commissions so please contact me to discuss any requirements but please note I am not a producion turner. Have a look at the Gallery pages for some examples of my work. I've added a few Projectsshowing a bit more of the making process which may also be of interest.
I completed the AWGB demonstrator training course in 2015. Since then I'm pleased to have been invited to present my ideas and original techniques to many woodturning clubs across the country. Please have a look at my Diaryfor past and future demonstrations.
In March 2017 I took the AWGB Approved Tutor assessment which I'm pleased to say I passed. I now have my own workshop where I can run courses tailored to individuals requirements. I am also more than happy to train you in your own workshop helping you to get the most from the equipment you have. Please contact me to discuss your requirements.
All the best
